Full Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to the 7 Lakes & Pacchanta Hot Springs

Between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. we will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco for the hike to the 7 Lakes of Ausangate. Then we will drive about 3.5 hours to Pacchanta, a local community located near the imposing Apu Ausangate. This mountain, at 6,372 meters, is the fourth highest in Peru and is considered the guardian and protector of the Cusco region.

Upon arrival, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast with the group before beginning our approximately 5 hour hike. During the hike we will explore the impressive colorful lagoons: Puca Cocha, Otorongo Macho, Otorongo Hembra, Alga Cocha, Q’omer Cocha, Azul Cocha and Pata Cocha. Along the way, we will admire the Andean landscapes and observe the majesty of the snow-capped Ausangate and the diverse Andean fauna, such as alpacas, llamas and vizcachas.

We will also have the opportunity to meet the local people who proudly wear their typical costumes and keep their ancestral traditions alive. Our professional guide will share interesting stories and fascinating facts about the culture, the Andean cosmovision and the importance of Ausangate to the surrounding communities.

After the hike we will return to Pacchanta for a hearty lunch. Afterwards, those who wish can relax in the natural hot springs, surrounded by spectacular scenery. Finally, we will return to Cusco, arriving around 6:30pm.
